December 08, 2007

We just went through this with our (not very impressive) diagnostic team at CHC. Our other doctor tells us that our son has sensory integration problems. Our OT has given us a list of about 10 things that he realy needs to work on. The CHC folks (after charging us an arm and a leg), told us that he has ADHD and is dyslexic.

A lot of my 8 year old son's neuromuscular development is at the 4 year old level. Four year olds routinely mix up the directions of their B's and P's and D's - just like my son. Isn't it possible, I asked the educational specialist, that, as we work on his proprioception, crossing the midline, tracking, hearing, balance in stillness, etc. etc. that as his brain develops, the dyslexia will wane (as it does naturally - and incidentally, as our other doctor suggested.)

She looked me right in the eye and said "I'd bet my life that he will always be dyslexic."

You will be happy to know that I did not slap her, stomp out, or anything. Instead, I took her name down and will enjoy quoting her and her organization at great length when my son is no longer dyslexic.

Sounds like you're doing a wonderful job!

(I actually think that our sons have met at Anat's!)
